Anticipation! That's what we need. Hope! Faith! We live in the part of the country that experiences four seasons, and most of us really enjoy the changing of the colors and the way things "green up" in April and May. I love to see summertime come with all the plans for vacations, VBS's, camping trips and Campmeeting! Campmeeting! YES! Before long the Fairmount Campgrounds will be humming with activity. Every year since I've come into this district (fall of 1977) I've been blessed by God through the experiences afforded me to be involved in our district camps. Many of you have similar storied to tell. God has been very faithful to meet with His people who call themselves Indiana North District Wesleyans; and count less lives have been encouraged, families strengthened, and souls saved because we have supported a vital ministry on our over-100-year old campgrounds. I am anticipating the dates of July 26 through August 2 when we will again have our Family Camp/Campmeeting. Rev. Greg & Becky Reynolds (District Superintendent and wife from Shenandoah) will lead us in worship. Dr. H.C. Wilson (Director of Global Partners) and Rev. John Ott (Pastor of Parkway Wesleyan in Roanoke, VA) will be our evangelists. Programming for teens and children and a fully staffed nursery will be provided for all services. It will be a great week! However, there is a question I am pondering. "Are Campmeeting and Family camp making a noticeable difference in our district? Is the "ripple effect" of campmeeting so strong that it causes and compels us to be more purposeful and bold in our witness and outreach to the unsaved, as well as in the practical matter of holy living?" (Is'nt this the purpose and goal of The Wesleyan Church?) Sometimes we take and take and take; we absorb wonderful ministries, services music, preaching and teaching, but then we go home and "get back in the same old routine." Campmeeting must become more focused in accomplishing (in part) the vision of our district. What is our vision? it is church and pastoral health; church and pastoral connectedness; the planting of new Wesleyan churches; the encouraging, calling, and training of young and old for full-time Christian ministry; and the salvation of the unsaved. This is "who" we are. If you've been one who has simply come to campmeeting for the "feel-good" effect, I implore you - I implore us - to step forward and pray that our district's camping experiences will become truly missional. Let's beseech and beleive God for mighty outpourngs of His Spirit upon every planned week of camp. What is the future of Fairmount Camp? That remains to be seen. I'm looking and believing for ongoing vitality and blessings from the Lord. But I believe He has more for us than we are asking or expecting! - (Edited) - Rev.
